Essential Duties and Responsibilities Additional duties may be assigned:

  • Develop project schedules and manage the workflow of the design team in coordination with the Senior Project Manager.
  • Oversee the preparation of plans, technical reports, cost estimates, and other client deliverables, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective designs that meet agency and client standards while incorporating Full Circle Thinking.
  • Supervise or manage direct contact with agencies, oversee plan processing for approval, work with agencies to resolve design issues, and ensure compliance with agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with external consultants (geotechnical, landscape, plumbing, architect, etc.) and internal departments (survey, mapping, water quality, etc.), and initiate “kick-off” meetings for various project phases.
  • Conduct site investigations and research for proposals, designs, and marketing materials.
  • Oversee or conduct site visits during construction to ensure plan conformity, resolve discrepancies, and respond to RFIs. • Provide workload forecasts to ensure proper team utilization and communicate resource needs with the Senior Project Manager.
  • Conduct staff reviews and provide coaching and training.
  • Ensure time is properly charged to projects and that employee timecards are submitted promptly.
  • Track project budgets, provide billing instructions, and handle change order requests as needed.
  • Initiate, implement, and promote new ideas and procedures incorporating Full Circle Thinking.
  • Represent FEI in meetings with clients and agencies.
  • Attend seminars and classes, and submit written evaluations of these with one or two key changes to be implemented. Supervisory Responsibilities In coordination with the Principal or Senior Project Manager, supervise 1-5 employees within the Engineering Team. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, planning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing and resolving complaints.

Education and Experience requirements

  • Any combination of a bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Civil Engineering or
  • Equivalent discipline from a four-year college or university and civil engineering design experience totaling ten years.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years of experience as the central design figure for a team as well as experience mentoring and overseeing workflow of projects is required.
  • Successful candidates will have well-developed problem solving, decision-making,communication and team building skills and the ability to manage projects from start to finish. EIT certification required.
  • PE license or ability to obtain the PE license within two years of hire/promotion is required. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D preferred.
